The IEE Wiring Regulations is the British standard that covers the safe design, installation and testing of electrical installations in building systems. It is the technical standard specified in UK contracts for electrical installation work. It is also the basis for the approved technical guidance to meet the electrical requirements of the Building Regulations so it is for this reason that a Competent Person will issue you with a BS 7671 compliant certificate on completion of any work. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is recommended at least every 10 years in domestic properties and at least every 5 years for commercial businesses and rented properties fall under the new regulations upon change of occupancy. Regular testing (like a car MOT) proves against deterioration of installations potentially leading to shocks / fires. The certificate will also be provided to NiC EiC / local building control and being Part P qualified means your installation will meet the modern required safety standard or better for electrical installations.
